Restaurants, Shopping, and Location
Everything you need is right here in Poipu
Shopping

The unit is approximately equidistant between the Marriot and the Kauai Grand Hyatt.   If you walk from the unit, along the ocean, you can get to the Hyatt in about 10 minutes.  If you walk along Poipu Beach road to the Marriot, it's about 20 minutes.  Along the way, you will pass by Brenneckes Beach and Baby Beach, if you are walking to the Marriot.

The best Shopping in the Poipu area is in Koloa, (Poipu is a subset of Koloa).  It is about 2.5 miles inland.  There are also numerous restaurants all over the place.  In the unit, we have a book which cites around 200 restaurants, which also features many reviews, including some of our own.  Our favorite restaurant is at Brenneckes Broiler, right on Brenneckes Beach.  We often walk there around 5 PM, and enjoy the sunset while eating, along with a leisurely stroll along the beach on the way home at dusk.  Another really great restaurant is Roy's.  It is just a little bit up the road from Brenneckes.  While Brenneckes is informal and features about the freshest seafood (and a fine ocean view) you can get, Roy's has tremendous continental/fusion cuisine, and is a little more upscale.

Most of the non-island style shopping (read this as the same stores as the mainland, ie Macy's, Radio Shack, Costco, WalMart, etc.) is in Lihue, which is the main town that the airport is located in.  Its really not a beach resort, its just a slumbering downtown, with a lot of vehicular traffic.  Most people go there to shop, and I don't know of anyone who goes there to stay.  It also has a movie theatre.  Its about a 20 minute drive to Poipu from Lihue.  Most people do this - they land in Lihue, get their rental car, go to Costco to stock up on their week's supply of groceries and treats, then they head for Poipu.  Then, during the week if they want something special (there are three great small retail grocery stores in Koloa - One is Japanese, one is whole foods, and the other is just an old fashion medium-size grocery), then they go to Koloa for shopping.

LuxuryPoipu features two local hosts who will greet you personally when you arrive.  They will show you around, familiarize you with the place, and then will remain available to you should you need anything of if you have any questions.  Together, they have over 25 years of experience on the island, and they would be delighted to tell you where the local people dine; where the best shopping is, and where you might want to wander off to see the side of the island that others generally miss.
