LuxuryPoipu is the largest, most luxurious vacation rental unit located directly on the Oceanfront at Makahuena, which is a resort subdivision of an area called Poipu, which is a neighborhood of Koloa, on the South side of Kauai. Almost of the photos on this page were taken primarily off the giant 450 foot private lanai. Of the few that weren't, they were taken within a few steps (maybe up to as far away as 50 feet of the unit, within the Makahuena complex.)

There is so much beauty and constant motion on the Island of Kauai, and particularly, here, at Makahuena, which is what drew us to this place. Whether its the constant crashing of the ocean, the views, the moonlight and stars, the whales, turtles, dolphins, and other sea-life, the flowers, sunrise, sunset, lizards of all kinds, cruise ships off in the distance, people flying over on ultralights, or paddling by in outriggers in the water, (OK, the list could go on and on) - there is just so much to see, and to photograph.

Being an avid amatuer photographer, and while being surrounded by all of this stimulus, I almost can't put my camera down. With that in mind, I have taken some of the photos captured in and around Makahuena, (primarily off our lanai) and have posted them here, for your enjoyment. A photo simply can't convey the beauty of the area, or the sensation of hearing the waves crash outside your window, but its a start. Or perhaps, a tease.
